To our esteemed Mayor, Sean Ryan and all city elected Councilmembers: Please continue picking up the doggone bulk trash 2 times a year. If you do not, people will still get the trash out of their houses whether the city has 2 bulk trash removals or not. It seems that people with no city government experience are making wrong and uninformed decisions.
County government is different from city government. Mayor Sean Ryan, this writer, believes your administration should have hired deputy mayors with some knowledge of the city, especially knowledge of the Eastside where most of the garbage and old furniture are discarded, oftentimes on vacant lots or in front of homeowners’ properties.
Who are the three councilmembers who do not think we need to keep the 2x a year bulk trash removal? I heard about the city abandoning the 2 bulk trash pickups being eliminated at least a month ago.
With the City Hall’s gossipers and the community’s Talking Drums, this writer is astonished that members of the Buffalo Common Council did not know about the possible elimination of the Fall bulk trash week. Many taxpayers, including members of my household, did not set out bulk trash this Spring because we thought we had another day for bulk trash in the Fall of this current year.
In past years, I have awakened to find that someone had dumped a truck load of bedsprings, mattresses and broken chairs on the side of my house. Buffalo City Hall told me that I had to pay to get it removed or I would be fined $1,500! We do not need to go back to those days! Mayor Ryan, the streets look better than they used to be. Please keep them that way.
Please ask Nate Boyd about the garbage and debris that were behind a building on Grider St. near the McDonald Restaurant. We worked for months to get that area cleared up. The owner of the property had to fence off his property to get rid of the illegal dumping.
During the Jimmy Griffin or Stanley Makowski mayoral administration— I forgot which one it was—some homeowners and taxpayers became so angry over the mountainous pile of garbage on their streets, they protested in front of City Hall. Legend has it that one of our well-known community activists paid her property tax bill with a child’s red wagon filled with unrolled pennies!
We don’t wish to go back to those bad days of garbage filled with vacant lots and curbside trash due to the failure of city government officials working together, with the community, to best serve We the People.
