The Criterion in Time: Hague Support Sought Easter Signs with Bisons

LOCAL ATTENDANCE EXPECTED TO RISE

Luke Evans article from The Buffalo Criterion Newspaper, from October 22, 1955

34-year-old Luke Easter, 240 lbs., 6’4, former Cleveland Indian first baseman, will probably be wearing a Bisons Baseball uniform next season if he is not drafted by a big league team on or before Dec. 1st.

During the 1955 season he played with the Charleston team of the American Association.

He will be the first race man to wear a Bison outfit since Frank Grant, a second-base man, back in 1886-88.

The addition of Easter is expected to swell local attendance and it is rumored that services of one or two more Negro players are being sought by the Bisons
