Buffalo’s Barbara Breckenridge, 82, Wins Four Gold Medals at World Transplant Games

Barbara Breckenridge, a 26 year kidney trans plant recipient attended the World Transplant Games in Dresden/Ger many this past August 17th through The 24th Representing the United States and Buffalo. At the age eighty-two, Barbara is still competing and is so very grateful to be able to do so.

The transplant games are Olympic style games that are held in different countries around the world every two years. They are held to bring awareness and the importance of organ and tissue donation and to show case how recipients can exceed, strive and live their best lives through transplantation’

Barbara has competed in eight countries and many cities across the United States. This year she brought home four gold medals competing in field events. Over the years she has won over eighty medals.

Barbara also stated that most importantly, the games are held to honor and show our gratitude to those who gave the ultimate gift to the transplant athletes. Without them we would not be there.

My life has been so fruitful in many ways and I thank God for my donor family, the gift of trans plantation and my team at ECMC.

It is so awesome to get together with acquaintances and friends that you have met over the years from the USA and around the world. We all look forward to seeing each other.

Again all of this is made possible through the process of organ and tis sue and living donation. We are the blessed ones because so many people die daily waiting for a life saving transplant.

There are not enough organs to fill the need of all that are waiting.

If you have not agreed to become an organ donor, please consider doing so.

Speak to your family about your decision to do so and encourage them to donate also. Living donation is also an option.

For information on the process, you can contact ECMC at 716-898-5001 or ConnectLife.org
