In Support of the HEART Act

On Friday, October 17th, 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul signed the Helping Equal Access to Registration for Transplants, or HEART Act. Patients in need of a transplant can now register with multiple transplant centers. Donate Life New York State estimates a 20% decrease in mortality for people in need of a transplant, due to this law.

I sponsored this legislation because it is a smart and sensible bill that saves lives. It also hits close to home for me, having had a family member in need of an organ transplant. I fully understand the stress and anxiety family members deal with while waiting for their loved one to find a donor match. Every New Yorker in need of a transplant should have every available opportunity to find a match and with the HEART Act, those opportunities are now more readily available.
