Dr. Orisanmi Burton, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at American University
Join us for a timely lecture by Dr. Orisanmi Burton, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at American University. Drawing from his acclaimed book and Black radical theory, Dr. Burton will explore the ongoing impact of prison repression, the historical roots of fascism in the U.S., and the lessons of past abolitionist movements.
Marking three years since the targeted attack on Buffalo’s East Side, this talk will address urgent questions:
What is fascism, and how has it shaped U.S. history?
Can the Attica Prison rebellion be understood as an anti-fascist movement?
How has the expansion of the U.S. prison system fueled the rise of American fascism?
What insights do past abolitionist struggles offer for today’s fight against repression and fascism?
