Open Buffalo hosts 3rd Annual Eco Justice Block Party

Open Buffalo is hosting its 3rd Annual Eco Justice Block Party on September 12, 2026, from 11am-4pm in the Jefferson-Utica Plaza.

Open Buffalo’s Eco Justice Block Party is an opportunity to build community while sharing wisdom, resources, and ideas for creating a more just, joyful, and sustainable world for everyone as we grapple with the consequences of climate change and environmental racism.

The goal of the Eco Justice Block Party is to help raise awareness and build partnerships with like-minded people to advocate for policies that can help address the unfair burdens that climate change and environmental contamination place on urban communities. Open Buffalo will be joined by more than 30 other local organizations providing information and resources regarding ecological justice.

This year, we experienced the hottest July ever recorded and, for the third summer in a row, had to avoid going outside for days at a time because of the smoke from historic wildfires in Canada.

The impact of climate change is felt most by residents in areas like the East Side and West Side, which lack greenspace, trees, and community pools because of disinvestment.

The Block Party is a chance to celebrate our community and culture. There will be food, ice cream, and lemonade, along with a petting zoo, mechanical bull, bounce house, obstacle course, slide, face painting, balloons, and so much more. DJ Tru Journey will emcee the event from start to finish and David Jonathan and the Inner-City Bedlam will bring their soulful and socially conscious music to the main stage from 2pm – 3:30pm.
