African American Heritage Guide unveiled at local church

A new edition of the African American Heritage Guide to Buffalo — a travelers’ guide to local Black history, culture, food, festivals and creative community — was unveiled Tuesday, June 10th, at a press conference at the historic Michigan Street Baptist Church, 511 Michigan Ave. The guide, published by Visit Buffalo Niagara, celebrated Buffalo’s Black community, past and present. It honored the trailblazers who shaped the city’s civil rights legacy and shines a light on Buffalo’s artists, entrepreneurs and cultural leaders.

The free publication includes high lights from the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor and Freedom Park, as well as restaurants, retailers and Black-owned businesses. Various individuals participated in the event: Patrick Kaler, president and CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara; Renata Toney, vice president, Destination Experience, Visit Buffalo Niagara; Sandy White, guide editor, founder Mus tard Seed World Consulting Group; Terry Alford, executive director, Michigan Street African Ameri can Heritage Corridor; Lil lie Wiley-Upshaw, chair, Buffalo Niagara Freedom Station Coalition; Dr. Eva Doyle, contributing guide author.
