Breast Cancer Network of WNY Names Jennifer Calero as New Executive Director

Longtime BCN advocate and marketing professional to lead the organization’s next chapter of growth and community impact.

The Breast Cancer Network of WNY (BCN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Calero as its new Executive Director, succeeding in retiring Executive Director Rob Jones.

Jennifer Calero

Jennifer brings extensive experience in business management, communications, strategic planning, fundraising, and community engagement, along with a longstanding connection to BCN. Having served the organization as both a board member and marketing consultant, she brings an understanding of BCN’s mission, programs, and the needs of the Western New York (WNY) breast cancer community.

“We are excited to welcome Jennifer into this leadership role,” said Michelle Swaggard, President of BCN’s Board of Directors. “Her knowledge of our organization, combined with her professional experience and passion for our mission, makes her well-positioned to lead BCN into its next chapter. We look forward to working with her to strengthen our programs, expand our reach, and build on the foundation that has been established.”

Jennifer is the founder of Small Talk Marketing, a consulting business she established in 2012 to help small businesses and nonprofit organizations develop effective marketing strategies and strengthen their community presence. Her previous professional experience includes marketing and public relations roles at Studio Arena Theatre and First Niagara Bank, where she also gained experience in corporate philanthropy and community giving.

As Executive Director, Jennifer plans to focus on strengthening BCN’s existing programs, building community partnerships, and diversifying fundraising efforts to support the organization’s long term sustainability. A key priority will be creating a more connected experience for individuals seeking support, making it easier to access BCN’s resources throughout their breast cancer journey.

“BCN has been an important part of my life for nearly a decade, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead an organization whose mission I have a personal connection to,” said Jennifer. “I want to build on BCN’s strong foundation so that more people throughout WNY can find the support, resources, and connections they need.”

Jennifer succeeds Rob Jones, who is retiring after 12 years of service to BCN. During his tenure, Jones helped guide the organization’s operations, fundraising efforts, and community programs, supporting its mission of providing hope and encouragement to those affected by breast cancer.

“Jennifer has been a valued partner of BCN for many years, and I’ve had the opportunity to work side by side with her,” said Jones. “She has a genuine commitment to the people we serve and I’m looking forward to seeing how BCN evolves under her leadership.”

Founded in 1988 by breast cancer survivors, Breast Cancer Network of WNY provides free programs and services to individuals and families impacted by breast cancer throughout WNY.

Its offerings include support groups, peer mentoring, patient navigation, TLC Totes for newly diagnosed individuals, educational programs, and more.
