City of Buffalo Closes Buffalo Skyway Due to Dangerous Winter Weather Conditions

BUFFALO, NY — Due to hazardous winter weather conditions, the City of Buffalo has closed the Buffalo Skyway to all traffic effective today, January 19, 2026 until 2:00pm. Partner agencies have been notified.

Lake effect snow combined with strong wind gusts and reduced visibility has created dangerous travel conditions on the Skyway, including the potential for whiteout conditions. The closure is being implemented to protect public safety and allow emergency crews to respond as needed.

Residents can stay informed by using the following resources:

• Plowing and snow operations updates: www.buffalony.gov/snow

• Storm preparedness, alerts, and resources: www.buffalony.gov/storm

The City of Buffalo urges residents to limit travel if possible, slow down when driving, and allow snow removal and emergency personnel the space they need to do their work safely.

Additional updates will be shared as conditions evolve.
