From Buffalo to Regional Leadership: Jones Advances the Pursuit of Justice

Deonna Jones

Deonna Jones is a force to be reckoned with in the legal world. She joined the Minority Bar Association of Western New York (MBAWNY) before even starting law school. Today, she is president of MBAWNY and was recently elected director of Region II of the National Bar Association.

It’s a perfect match, as Jones has made a career of challenging injustice and advancing equity in the legal system. The National Bar Association, which was founded in 1925, represents more than a century of advocating civil rights and demanding equal access to justice. The MBAWNY was founded in 1980 as an affiliate chapter.

“It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as the incoming director for Region II of the National Bar Association while continuing to serve as president of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York,” said Jones. “As a Black attorney from Buffalo, this election result carries profound meaning.”

“Like so many Black attorneys, I understand the barriers that have historically stood in the way of equal opportunity in our profession. To now serve in a leadership role within an organization built on resilience, excellence, and the relentless pursuit of justice is both humbling and deeply personal.”

Jones’ term as president of the MBAWNY ends Dec. 31, 2026. On July 30, 2026, she began her term as director of the National Bar Association’s Region II, which comprises New York State, Connecticut, and Vermont.
