GOV. HOCHUL’S LATE BUDGET LEAVES BEHIND NEW YORK’S WORKING FAMILIES

NEW YORK, NY—In response to the final state budget agreement, New York Working Families Party (NYWFP) Co-Directors Ana María Archila and Jasmine Gripper released the following statement:

“New Yorkers are facing a worsening affordability crisis and an onslaught of attacks from Trump’s authoritarian regime. We deserve a leader who will actually put working families first and a budget that is reflective of our values. At the State of the State address, Governor Hochul promised to fight for New York’s families. Instead, she held up the budget negotiations to erode democracy and protections for New Yorkers, including —

  • Underfunding NYC public schools and rolling back educational standards for children in private schools

  • Weakening discovery laws to deny New Yorkers access to evidence before trial

  • Attempting to criminalize wearing a mask

  • Altering the law (once again) regarding Lieutenant Governor elections for her own benefit

“In sharp contrast to Governor Hochul, New York Working Families Party champions in the Senate and Assembly worked relentlessly to stand up for every New Yorker — successfully defeating the worst of the Governor’s policy proposals. We will continue to work alongside WFP elected leaders to build a state that puts working families first.”
