Jackson Appointed Chief Probation Officer for the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Office
CLIFFORD D. JACKSON
Rochester, New York -- The United States District Court for the Western District of New York has announced the appointment of Clifford D. Jackson as the next Chief Probation Officer to lead the district’s U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Office. Jackson will succeed Chief Probation Officer Timothy Englerth, who will retire in December 2025 after 24 years of federal service.
Currently the Deputy Chief Probation Officer, Jackson has worked in the Probation Office since 2006, rising to Supervisory Probation Officer and Deputy Chief Probation Officer before his present appointment. Jackson earned a Bachelor of Science in Economic Crime and Investigation from Hilbert College and will receive a Master of Science in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management from SUNY Buffalo State University next month.
Chief Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford stated, “Cliff Jackson is an excellent choice for this critical leadership role. His experience, professionalism, and commitment to public service make him uniquely qualified to lead our district’s Probation and Pretrial Services Office into the future. Cliff’s thoughtful approach to supervision and his endorsement of both accountability and rehabilitation exemplify the mission of the office that he will lead. And he will undertake this role with the humility and dedication necessary to be an effective and respected leader.”
The Western District of New York encompasses 17 counties across Western New York, from Monroe County in the east to Chautauqua County on the Pennsylvania border. The Probation Office plays a vital role in the court’s criminal justice function, providing investigative and supervisory services to assist the court in the fair administration of justice. Jackson will supervise 67 officers and staff located in offices in Rochester and Buffalo.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Court and the community in the Western District of New York for the past 24 years,” stated Englerth. “I feel as though I have gotten much more in return than I have given, in large part due to all the great people that do this work. I am confident that Cliff will carry on the tradition of excellence this district is known for.”
“Tim Englerth has served our district with great distinction. We will miss Tim’s leadership, but I am confident that Cliff will continue that tradition of excellence,” said Chief Judge Wolford. “Both Tim and Cliff exemplify the integrity, leadership, and dedication that define our district’s service to the public.”
