Jesse Clipper American Legion Post No. 430, Anglers Go Walleye Fishing

On Thursday, September 18th, Bill Barber, Perry Civils, and Rev. Eugene Pierce, members of the Jesse Clipper Post No. 430 anglers, traveled from Buffalo to Westfield, NY, for a scheduled half-day walleye fishing trip. Westfield is located 62 miles east of Buffalo, at Barcelona Harbor, which features some of the deepest waters in Lake Erie, exceeding depths of 100 feet in certain areas.

Their goal was to catch their limit of six fish per person between 7:00 AM and 12:00 noon. By 8:00 AM, they had met their limit, landing a total of eighteen fish, some weighing as much as eight pounds. The cap tain and his mate (the assistant) dressed and bagged the fish for them. During their conversation with the captain, they learned that fishing in this area has been superb, the best it has ever been.

**Review: **On Sunday, September 21st, while the anglers were attending the Colored Musicians Club’s 90th Anniversary Gala, Dr. James Lewis and his wife, Elder Zandra Lewis, visited their table. They spoke about Bill Barber, one of the anglers sit ting at the table who had shared some freshly caught walleye with them. They cooked the walleye and were delighted to discover that it had an exceptional taste, saying it was “the best tasting fish they had ever had.”
