Juneteenth of Buffalo Prepares to Celebrate its 49th Anniversary

BUFFALO, NY —Juneteenth Festival, Inc. held a press conference on Friday, May 9th at Juneteenth Headquarters, 1517 Genesee Street, to announce plans for the 49th Anniversary. The Buffalo Juneteenth celebration beautifully honors the rich cultural heritage of the African American community, bringing history to life through music, dance, art, and storytelling for the whole family! For nearly a half century, Buffalo has honored Juneteenth with a powerful community celebration root ed in African American history, freedom and culture.

The press conference pro vided a first look at what to expect for this year’s historic 49th Festival and recognize the enduring commitment. Since its inception in 1976, the Buffalo Juneteenth Festival has grown into one of the largest and longest-running Juneteenth celebrations in the country. Rooted in the spirit of resilience and liberation, the festival continues to amplify African American culture, heritage, and contributions, while engaging generations of families, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

49th Anniversary!

“We are proud to uplift this tradition for the 49th year anni versary,” said Carrone Evon Crump, newly elected President of Buffalo Juneteenth Festival, Inc. “As we celebrate it we are more committed than ever to making this year’s celebration a powerful tribute to our shared history and an inspiring vision for our future.”

The Juneteenth Festival has been a cornerstone of cultural celebration, unity, and pride in Buffalo. As one of the longest running Juneteenth festivals in the nation, the 2025 event will carry on this powerful legacy with expanded programming and fresh opportunities for community engagement.

This Year’s Festival will feature:

  • A vibrant Arts & Culture and Edutainment Stage with musical performances and the spoken word.

  • Our very popular Juneteenth Parade.

  • Enjoy mouthwatering dishes from a variety of food vendors and explore an exciting new marketplace

  • A dynamic Health & Well ness Pavilion offering resources and wellness experiences.

  • The Griot Tent, a special space for our elders, honoring our seniors and oral traditions.
