Lawrence Dupre: As We Move Forward

Legislator Lawrence Dupre

February has been a busy month for Legislator Lawrence Dupre who has been out and about in the first district that he represents making sure that the community had everything needed to get through the winter. With spring around the corner, Mr. Dupre has started his campaign for the primary and general elections ahead.

“I received the endorsement on February 10, 2026, from the Erie County Democratic Committee and the Working Families. I have been in contact with all the unions and am waiting for their responses. I also have been out campaigning and getting ready for my petitions out for people to sign on February 24, 2026.” Said Mr. Dupre.

Mr. Dupre want the community took part in various programs Black history. On February 10, 2026, he presented awards to Chief Thelma Jones of C- District Police Station for all her hard work and dedication in the community by keeping our streets safe. Awards also given to Mr. Frank Merriweather III and his family for 100 years of dedication and publishing “The Buffalo Criterion” newspaper. This event given by the Johnetta R. Cole Am Vets Post 24 and the African American Veterans Arts and Culture Corporation as part of their Black His tory Celebration.

On February 26, 2026, during a legislative session, Mr. Dupre and second district legislator Tanisha St. Jean Tard honored local African American Newspapers “The Buffalo Challenger Newspaper”, “The Buffalo Criterion Newspaper” and Rev. Timothy Newkirk. To close out black history month, Mr. Dupre was at the Broad way Market greeting local African American vendors, and spent time with the Johnetta R. Cole Am Vets Post 24.

Finally, Mr. Dupre wants everyone to save the date March 28, 2026, for the community Easter Egg Hunt at the Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Sports Pavilion, located at 1100 Jefferson Ave., from 2pm 4pm. This is an event for all ages and light refreshments will be served during the egg hunt. This is a free event for the com munity and sponsored by the Winslow 2 Block Club, Johnnie B. Wiley Block Club and One Buffalo organizations.

The Salvation Army’s Family Resource Center located at 1000 Main Street has an emergency food pantry, that’s open on Mondays from 9am- 1pm, Wednesdays 11am- 2pm, and Fridays 9am 1pm. People needing this service must have identification including members of the household and reusable bags. For more information, please call 716.888.6230.
