LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO PARTICIPATE INBUFFALO SEWER QUEEN CITY CLEAN WATERS FAIR
Public invited to attend free event to learn more about $1 billion initiative to enhance and protect area waters
BUFFALO, NY – Buffalo Sewer has announced that various local organizations will be participating in the Queen City Clean Waters Fair on August 29th from 4 PM – 7 PM at Hoyt Lake.
The Clean Waters Fair is providing the residents of Buffalo with an evening of food + music, giveaways, environmental educational activities, and interactive displays so residents can learn more about the $1 billion Queen City Clean Waters Initiative to enhance and protect area waterways by reducing combined sewer overflows and the work Buffalo Sewer does every day to protect the environment and health of the people of Western New York.
Over the next 15 years, various infrastructure enhancements at 50+ sites across the city will take place, including $250 million in upgrades at the Bird Island Wastewater Treatment Facility, the second largest wastewater treatment facility in New York State serving over 550,000 customers.
“I can’t think of a better way to end the summer than by celebrating how we are working as a community to protect our area waterways,” said Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon. “Our region is so fortunate and unique from most of the country in having so many natural water resources that contribute to such a great quality of life here. The Queen City Clean Waters Fair reminds us of our obligations to protect these precious resources.”
Local workforce, environmental, and sustainable organizations will be joining Buffalo Sewer staff to provide educational, hands-on activities for all ages to learn more about water quality and protecting waterways, including:

National Grid and M&T Bank will be providing free book bags to children to help them get prepared for going back to school after Labor Day. Approximately 200 bookbags will be available for attendees while supplies last.
A few of Buffalo’s favorite pop-up food vendors will be providing food & beverage options for attendees, including Half Luna Empanadas, Twisted Icee Slushie, What’s Poppin Popcorn, and Moneybag Dumplings. Buffalo Sewer will provide complimentary cans of water and refillable water stations at the Clean Waters Fair.
