Read To Succeed Hosts Free Workshop For Families With Children 3-8 Years
Attendees will learn SIMPLE STRATEGIES to boost children’s literacy skills outside of the classroom
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Read to Succeed is hosting a workshop that is free for families thanks to sup port from the Buffalo Public Schools Family & Community Engagement Department. This 90-minute workshop will teach caregivers of children 3 to 8 years of age read aloud strategies that enhance vocabulary and comprehension skills while growing back ground knowledge in their young children.
The workshop will be offered twice: once on Wednesday, March 4th, from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM and again April 22nd from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Each workshop will take place at South Park High School Family Center, 150 Southside Pkwy, Buffalo, 14220.
This workshop is designated for parents, grandparents, and other caretakers with children aged 3-8 years old. In addition to learning read aloud skills attendees will take home a new, age-appropriate book for their child to keep and read again and again.
According to Zero to Three, only 37% of par ents read to their babies every day. But reading aloud to children from birth is an excellent opportunity to increase vocabulary and is a key factor in healthy brain development and a building block for cognition, executive functions, and social intelligence.,” stated Read to Succeed Executive Director Anne Ryan. “Every caregiver has the opportunity to improve their child’s foundational literacy skills outside of the class room simply by reading and talking with them from birth.”
