Straw - A Tyler Perry Movie on Netflix

Tyler Perry’s latest film, Straw continues to show his professional versatility. This movie has very timely messages that will make each viewer think about the current climate of our communities. Actors; Taraji P Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Rockmond Dunbar, Ashley Versher, Mike Merrill, Glynn Turman, Shalet Monique, Diva Tyler, and Sinbad are absolutely outstanding in each of their roles.

In selecting the cast for this movie which emphasizes events that test one’s endurance leading to the “last straw,” Perry’s expression of humanity is reflected in having Sinbad who continues to experience challenges resulting from a stroke, play the role of Benny. Perry who has cast veteran actors in many of his films, always shows his appreciation for those who have paved the way for others. In this way, these actors are given an opportunity to continue to earn a living within an unstable business that does not guarantee employment.

Circumstances that lead to the protagonist’s actions highlight some of the relational issues between mothers and fathers. Also, predicaments facing the characters are the result of limited resources thus inhibiting efforts that lead to positive outcomes.

Likewise, Perry sheds light on overzealous police officers who simply regard the power of the badge without understanding its level of accountability. I appreciate that he allows the viewer to reflect on the characteristics officers should possess to deal with the extreme pressures of the job. Detective Raymond, played by Teyana Taylor is skilled at diffusing situations in order to prevent further tragedy.

This film receives a must-see rating! Congratulations to Tyler Perry and the entire cast.
