Neighborhood Legal Services Receives Grant from The New York Bar Foundation

The New York Bar Foundation’s grant program supports non profit organizations across New York State whose law-related projects expand access to justice, advance the rule of law, strengthen the justice system, and help meet pressing community needs. “The Foundation is proud to support organizations whose work helps expand access to justice, strengthen com munities, and respond to real needs across New York State,” said the Honorable Cheryl E. Chambers, President of The New York Bar Foundation.

Neighborhood Legal Services recently received a grant from The New York Bar Foundation. The grant will support its Medicaid Assistance Project. The Medicaid Assistance Project will address the needs of NLS clients who may be harmed by cuts to the Medicaid program and its stricter eligibility requirements through community education and legal advocacy.”

“NLS is pleased to receive the support of The New York Bar Foundation. This funding will help us address the immediate needs of our clients as they navigate the recent cuts to the Medicaid program,” said William O’Connell, Executive Director of Neighborhood Legal Services. “Our Public Benefits Unit will lead this work as an exten sion of the critical services they already provide. We are doing everything we can to respond quickly and effectively as the situation warrants.”

The Foundation recently awarded more than $570,000 in sup port of law-related programs across New York State, helping nonprofit organiza tions expand services, address urgent needs, and build momentum for future growth. Gioia Gensini, Chair of the Grants Review Committee noted that: “Our grantees are doing essential work in com munities across New York State, and these grants help them build capacity and meet urgent needs, supporting the advancement of the Foundation’s core values, helping to pro vide access to justice in a variety of areas, with as broad an impact as possible.”
