Buffalo Bills in decline at the wrong time of the season
By Pat Freeman, The Mighty O’Ba
The Buffalo Bills have lost two out of three games with only six games while on the brink of being eliminated from the playoffs. Many of the problems that they are experiencing seems based on personnel decisions that were made during the off season. The first three rounds of the draft to begin with have produced a plethora of players that have no impact whatsoever. These picks have been the Achilles heel of the McDermott/Beane era despite having seven -8 winning seasons and five straight division titles. These misses have not provided the impact needed to get over the hump to get this franchise back to the Super Bowl.
The other issue I have had this year is coaching at the coordinator level and because of that Coach McDermott has had to take over the defensive play calls which takes away from him monitoring all facets of the game as head coach. Let us be frank about this when I asked Coach McDermott ,he stated that he and Defensive Coordinator Bobby Babich share the responsibility. The fact of the matter is every head coach at the NFL level can alter any part of the game at any point of the game. When he must share play calling takes away from him overseeing special teams and the offense which has led to a decline at times against opponents this season. Bobby Babich has proven to be inadequate during games which have forced Coach McDermott to oversee the defensive calls. Now to do this , he is unable to adequately supervise the play calling of Joe Brady on offense who has been inconsistent this entire season despite having the reigning MVP as your quarterback. Brady has barely used James Cook in the passing game which has made his personnel groupings very predictable. Lastly, it's all on the line now with a large number of injuries facing the hometown team that could be knocked out of playoff contention if they lose two more games.
