Buffalo Bills Update
By Pat Freeman, The Mighty O’Ba
The Buffalo Bills have named their cur rent 53-man roster and practice squad. There are a few things that we must seriously look at before the opener. The coaching staff obviously believe that this team has a quality depth problem in the defensive backfield. Specifically, the safety position with players on the roster that have not shown that they can be on the field week to week.
This is why the franchise brought back battle tested veteran Jordan Poyer who I believe because of his knowledge of the defense, was brought possibly to help some of the younger safeties understand where they needed to be in certain situations. Poyer and Michah Hyde will go down as one of the best safety tandems in team history, but the Bills failed to find adequate replacements unfortunately both were affected by the injuries of this very violent sport. At this stage of Jordan Poyer’s career I think he and Micah Hyde will be two terrific coaches, but I will be surprised if that battle tested body can take the pounding of the long NFL season.
The defensive line of the Bills has also been an area of concern with the organization bring ing back Jordan Phillips, who is another aging veteran whose physical health is my only con cern. This gets me to the one area that could hurt the Bills from reach ing the Super Bowl this year, the health of this franchise with this make up could be the factor that hurts the hometown team from reaching the big dance in San Fran cisco in 2026.
