Shepard was born on July 15, 1951, to John and Dorothy Shepard. From a young age, Shepard was influenced to embrace her artistic and performative side. Both of her parents were competitive dancers, which was one of the main reasons she became a dancer.
SHEPARD’S PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
After becoming quite popular for her dance skills, Shepard began to perform on-stage in various Broadway shows throughout the 1970s and 1980s. In 1977, she performed as a dancer in the Academy Awards broadcast. Shepard began to take part in a few on-screen and voice acting roles, ultimately prioritizing her acting career over her dancing career. In 1978, she starred in the film The Wiz, which ultimately led to her big break.
THE LOSS OF AN IDOL
Fans honored Shepard at the International Women’s Day Gospel on March 8, 2026. Ulti mately, she passed away eight days after the event took place. According to ABCNews her passing was completely unexpected. Her family states that they will forever cherish memories of her.
Harvey, Shepard’s longtime co-host, posted on Instagram on March 18 regarding the passing of his beloved friend. Harvey’s post says, “Kiki Shepa rd was absolutely one of a kind. She was one of the first people to help me navigate this TV business. The kind est person I’ve ever met …. Kiki was such a major part of Showtime at the Apollo and was there for the launch of so many great careers in the entertainment industry! Rest in peace my friend.”
