ECMC receives New York HEART Act Pen Certificate
WHAT: In honor of the signing of the New York HEART Act, Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples Stokes presents Erie County Medical Center with framed pen certificate of the NY HEART Act bill.
WHO: Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes, ECMC President and COO Andrew L. Davis, and Program Director Regional Transplantation and Kidney Care Center of Excellence at ECMC Dr. Liise K. Kayler. Barbara Breckinridge, Kidney Foundation of WNY.
WHEN: Monday, December 15, 2025; 10:00am.
WHERE: Erie County Medical Center 2nd Floor Cafeteria Overflow.
WHY: The New York HEART Act (Helping Equal Access to Registrations for Transplants) allows patients to register at multiple transplant centers to find a donor. This also decreases wait times for organ donations and ensures equity by preventing transplant centers from favoring patients based on a facility’s past performance or relationship with donor hospitals. The HEART Act repealed a more than 30-year-old state law that restricted patients to a single transplant waiting list within New York. Patients can now register at multiple transplant centers throughout New York state at the same time.
