Buffalo’s Favorite Start to Summer is Back: Register Now for Kids Run 2026 on June 6 at Delaware Park

BUFFALO, N.Y.(May 6, 2026) – More than 5,000 people are expected to descend on Delaware Park next month as the Independent Health Foundation gears up for its 38th annual Kids Run, presented by Wegmans, on Saturday, June 6—one of Western New York’s largest group fitness events.

“Kids Run is more than a race—it’s about staying healthy, being active, getting outside, and kicking off summer on the right foot,” said Carrie Meyer, Executive Director, Independent Health Foundation. “As we enter into our 38th year, we’re proud to continue growing this event, which would not be possible without the support of our community and partners.”

This free event features a 1.8-mile loop on Ring Road, open to walkers and runners of all ages. A mini-dash is available for children ages 2 to 5. Participants ages 6 to 18 can register for a timing chip to receive personal race results compete for trophies across age categories. Those who pre-register will receive an official race number by mail. 

The event is located in the Colvin Green Space, near Colvin Blvd. and Amherst Street.

Pre-race festivities include a DJ Milk dance session, an animal show by Nickel City Reptiles & Exotics, interactive soccer activities from Soccer for Success, and fun activities at the Wegmans tent. Following the races, attendees can enjoy healthy snacks, music, and an awards ceremony.

Training Starts May 13

Young runners can prepare for race day through a partnership with Rolly Pollies. “Running with Rita!” is a free, four-week video training launching Wednesday, May 13, covering stretching, endurance, and race preparation. New episodes drop every Wednesday and will be available on the Independent Health Foundation’s YouTube channel
