NYS Majority Leader Crystal People-Stokes said, “This ceremony honors not only 2nd Lieutenant Emily Perez but the countless men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. As we mark Gold Star Mothers’ and Families’ Day, it is inspiring to see young people from Washington, D.C. here in Buffalo learning about the service and legacy of African American veterans at this Monument. Their participation ensures these stories continue to be told for generations to come.”

Welcoming these students as they take part in the ceremony for LT. Emily Perez is especially meaningful.
