Public Comment Period Begins For New Discharge Permit At Bird Island Wastewater Treatment Plant
BUFFALO – A thirty day public comment period has commenced for a new 5-year state pollutant discharge elimination (SPDES) issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) for Buffalo Sewer’s Bird Island Wastewater Treatment plant.

Michelle R. Woznik, NYSDEC 700 Delaware Avenue Buffalo, NY 14209 (716) 851-7165 The Bird Island Wastewater Treatment plant discharges treated sanitary sewage to the Niagara River and combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to waterways throughout the City of Buffalo.
Buffalo Sewer is implementing Queen City Clean Waters which is a 15-year initiative that is investing approximately $1 billion to make infrastructure improvements to mitigate CSOs, including $250 million at the Bird Island plant.
