Nami Buffalo & WNY, Veterans One-Stop Center Bring Free Nami Homefront Class To Region

In an exciting new partnership, NAMI Buffalo & Western New York is teaming up with the Buffalo Veterans One-Stop Center to offer NAMI National’s signature Homefront education program to family members, loved ones, and caregivers of those who are serving, or have served, in the military.

Based on its signature NAMI Family-to-Family program, Homefront is a free 6-week education program for adult loved ones of military Service Members who experi ence symptoms of a mental health condition. Designed to help family members and caregivers understand, support, and advocate for their loved one, the course offers participants:

  • practical, up-to-date information about mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and substance use

  • understanding of the latest treatment options, including evidence based therapies and medications

  • problem-solving techniques, coping strategies, and communication skills

  • a community of sup port in a confidential setting

Veterans One-Stop’s Director of Veteran Ser vices, Apple Domingo, notes, “The Veterans One-Stop is thrilled to collaborate with NAMI Buffalo & Western New York to offer the Home front class in-person for our region. We look forward to having fam ily members of our veterans receive support, advocacy and education through the program to strengthen and sustain veterans’ recovery from mental health challenges. Wellness includes mental health and well-being, as well as physical health - for the whole person and family. We anticipate that the class will be especially relevant as it is led by two experienced, trained veteran spouses.”

Registration is open now for the class which will be held at the Veterans One-Stop Center at 1255 Niagara St. in Buffalo. Pre-registration is required. Classes will meet from 6-8:30 pm on Tuesdays, September 16 through October 28th. There will be no class on Tuesday, September 30th. Space is limited and it is important to attend all sessions. Materials and supplies are provided at no charge.
