Roscoe Henderson III appointed to Buffalo School Board

Last week, the Buffalo Board of Education appointed Roscoe Henderson III to represent the North District, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of former board member Cindi McEachon. The appointment came at a time when the Buffalo Public Schools faced significant governance challenges, making the selection of a qualified and community-minded representative an important decision for both the Board and the residents of the North District.

Henderson brings a diverse background in public service to the position. After serving more than twenty-five years with the Buffalo Police Department as an accident investigator, he continued his commitment to the community by working as a school resource officer, substitute teacher, and detention supervisor. These experiences gave him firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing students, educators, and families within the Buffalo Public Schools system. As a graduate of Buffalo Public Schools and a longtime resident of the North District, Henderson also possessed a personal connection to the district he was chosen to represent.

His mission is centered on collaboration, accountability, and ensuring that decisions were made with students’ educational needs as the highest priority. Henderson stated that his motivation for seeking the appointment was to give back to the community that had helped shape his life and career.

Beyond his professional experience, Henderson has been involved in Buffalo’s civic and cultural organizations, including work with institutions that promote arts and education. His community engagement demonstrated a broader commitment to improving opportunities for residents and supporting organizations that enrich the city’s educational and cultural landscape.
