Councilwoman Zeneta B. Everhart Issues Statement on BPD Data Showing Decline in Shootings, Homicides
Council Woman Zeneta B. Everhart
Buffalo, N.Y. - Masten District Council Woman Zeneta B. Everhart has issued a statement on data released yesterday by the Buffalo Police Department showing declines in violent crime throughout 2025:
The record low crime data released by the Buffalo Police Department yesterday is extremely encouraging. While summer normally brings an increase in violence, the City of Buffalo saw zero homicides during the month of August for the first time in 40 years of recordkeeping. The data shows violent crime is down across the board for the first eight months of 2025, including a 45% decrease in homicides, a 35% decrease in shooting victims, and a 34% drop in motor vehicle thefts. These aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet; these are lives saved. These numbers are teenagers returning home safe and sound. These numbers are young Buffalonians growing up without the disability and trauma of a violent injury. These numbers are streets where our residents feel safe.
I thank the members of the Buffalo Police Department, community organizations, violence disruptors, and our partners in government who have worked to bring violent crime to record lows in our city. Let’s continue to build off this progress and strive for a Buffalo that is free of all acts of violence.”
