The Buffalo Bills remain unbeaten through the first four weeks of the season with a tough win at home vs the New Orleans Saints. The strength of the offense through the first four games has been the increased workload of James Cook which has propelled him to being the second leading rusher in the league so far. The running back by committee has been thrown out so far and it is the James Cook show so far on the ground at 5.3 yards per carry with five touchdowns. Quarterback Josh Allen has thrown for a comfortable 964 yards through four games with only one interception to seven touchdown passes. The offense so far has performed well.
The area of concern rests on the defensive side of the ball with inconsistent play from every position. The greatest concern this early in the season is that allowing six yard per rush is unacceptable for a Sean McDermott defense. We must keep in mind your best defensive lineman Ed Oliver has been out for a few weeks with a foot injury along with Matt Milano. The one thing you know for sure is that until the Bills prove they can shut the run-down teams are going to do it. When you run the football, it keeps Josh Allen off the field. Buffalo Bills’ current value is now approaching six billion dollars in value according to the latest Forbes NFL valuation of franchises. I attribute this increase to the McDermott/ Beane era which has landed the hometown team with six nationally televised games and 7/8 playoff appearances. When Sean McDermott was hired the Buffalo Bills had the longest playoff drought in the NFL and are now one of the best franchises in the league.
