Time for the Bills to take care of James Cook
By Pat Freeman, The Mighty O’Ba
The subject of run ning back, James Cook, continues to be an issue for the Buffalo Bills as the 2025 training camp begins in Rochester, New York. This issue, as I have mentioned before, is the creation of the organization overpaying the position of tight end, which has created an imbalance in their salary cap position allocation.
James Cook has per formed at a pro bowl level during his tenure here in Western New York and deserves to be properly compensated. The problem with running backs is that they tend to peak and go downhill fast from the demands of the position. The solution must be a two-year guaran teed deal, which would please James Cook. Shorter contracts with more guaranteed money are the best solution to end a locker room distraction on a team that could have a good chance of representing the AFC in the Super Bowl.
Holding an underpay ing rookie contract over a player’s head just does not sit in good light for an organization that has prided itself on drafting and retaining those that have performed well. James Cook has been a stellar performer in this franchise since taking over the #1 running back duties and deserves a new deal. The position of running back unfortu nately suggests that this just be a two-year deal because of the nature of the position.
